Learning in Language and Literature (LiLL)

Organisation profile

Organisation profile

Learning in Language and Literature, LiLL, was established in 2023. It is a research environment at the Faculty of Education at Kristianstad University. Researchers and teachers, including doctoral students, from the subjects Swedish, English and Pedagogy are engaged in the environment. The overarching purpose of LiLL is to support research related to learning in language and literature. Several externally financed projects are connected to the research environment, as is a national graduate school. Many of the participating researchers collaborate with scholars at other universities, nationally and internationally.

Within the environment, research is conducted on reading, which includes areas such as deep reading and reading strategies, how historical fiction can be used in a didactic context, literature reading in preschool, literature work and emotions in the classroom and how the study of literature is legitimized. Other research has examined girls' book and girls' reading, adoption memories, and different perspectives on, for example, Selma Lagerlöf's and Anna Rydstedt's texts. The research also includes textual analyses from both literary and linguistic perspectives, as well as teaching material analyses based on different theoretical frameworks.

Researchers in the environment also study writing, which includes, for example, investigations of how writing discourses are standardized in early writing teaching, methodological development of tools for studying the writing process, classroom interventions to support narrative writing, writing development during the school years from a cognitive perspective, writing as a social practice, and how different literacy activities can contribute to subject deepening, for example in social studies. Furthermore, teaching from multimodal perspectives, and assessment practice in digital and multimodal learning environments, is investigated.

Finally, research is also conducted on the revitalization of minority languages (such as Älvdalian and Sami languages), and how adjective use develops in children during the school years.
