Research
Elisabet Rothenberg, is registered dietitian (RD) and Professor in geriatric nutrtition at the department of Health Sciences at the University of Kristianstad, where she has been employed since 2014. In 1997, she defended her dissertation at Gothenburg University on the subject ”Nutrition in the elderly. Dietary intake and dietary assessment methods”. Prior to her current role, she was Chief Dietitian (1997-2010) and worked as an Operational Developer focusing on patient safety at Sahlgrenska Hospital. In addition, Elisabet has extensive experience of clinical work within elderly care as well at hospital as at nursing homes.
Since 2016, Elisabet has been chairman of SWESPEN https://www.swespen.se/ , the Swedish branch of the European Nutrition Organization ESPEN (European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism). She is also a member of the ESPEN council https://www.espen.org/ and participates in the development of guidelines for clinical nutrition.
Elisabet has a senior role in the Swedish Dietitian Organization (DRF), an organisation she chaired for 16 years. She is an active participant in the European Federation of Dietitians' Associations (EFAD) http://www.efad.org/en-us/home/ work and in the international expert group for an American dietitian organization, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) https://www.eatright.org/ work with SNOMED CT https://www.snomed.org/ .
Elisabet’s subject of research is in the field of Geriatric Nutrition: Energy & Nutritional requirements and body composition, in relation to health during aging. Elisabet is active in the research group Center for Aging and Health (Age Cap) https://www.gu.se/en/agecap where she studies the connection between nutrition, body composition and physical function from the database provided by the Gothenburg H70 birth cohort studies.
Currently, Elisabet is responsible for the Forte-funded project Senior alert - a means for better care in collaboration (SeSAM) https://www.senioralert.se/forskning/sesam/ .During a period of four years, the research group will conduct four sub-studies to study factors that build support and obstacles for Senior alert. The aim of the project is to develop an efficient and powerful care prevention process and model which promotes successful collaboration between different stakeholders. The project is funded under Forte’s division "Care and care in collaboration - for an equal, participatory and dignified aging in 2021".
She is also leading the FORKH founded project "Translation and Cultural adaptation of the Malnutrition Awareness Scale to a Swedish setting" together with Jenny McGreevy RD, Ph. Lic., Clinical Dietitian, Region Sörmland, Sarah Forsberg, Ph.D, Senior Lecturer in Food and Meal Science, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Kristianstad University, Albert Westergren, RN, Ph.D., Professor at Kristianstad University and Health Care Strategist in Region Skåne.
Another Senior alter research project she invloved in is the Orangy study in a collaboration with the company Pfizer and some Swedish and German geriatricians. The aim is, in a longitudinal real-world observational study, examine the prevalence, predictors, and outcomes of anorexia of ageing among nursing home residents aged ≥65 years, with and without dementia respectlively in Sweden using data from a national quality improvement registry.
She one of the supervisors for the PhD student Julie Johannesson studien dietairy habits and its realtion to frailty on older adults.
She is involved in a reseaerch project led by Mikaela Willmer at University of Gävle studing studying he reflections and experiences of healthcare staff regarding disordered eating behaviors among older persons in residential care.
She is also leading the FORKH founded project "Translation and Cultural adaptation of the Malnutrition Awareness Scale to a Swedish setting" together with Jenny McGreevy RD, Ph. Lic., Clinical Dietitian, Region Sörmland, Sarah Forsberg, Ph.D, Senior Lecturer in Food and Meal Science, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Kristianstad University, Albert Westergren, RN, Ph.D., Professor at Kristianstad University and Health Care Strategist in Region Skåne.
She part of a group Swedish researcher writing a scoping review mapping the evidence concerning tools with which to identify and grade frailty among people 65 years of age and older with respect to accuracy and feasibility/ clinical usefulness. The group is led by the geriatrician Anne Ekdahl.
She is one of the supervisors in a group of young researchers from the Scandivian countries studing the prevealence of fraitly at Stockholms sjukhem (nursinghome).
At present she is writing a scientific report on fodd and nutrition for older frail people for the Swedish Food Agency.
