    Research

Oriana Quaglietta Bernal, PhD in Sociology, researches power structures and their interaction in the Swedish context from an intersectional perspective. She is also interested in understanding how individuals try to navigate these power structures while attempting to create meaningful lives for themselves.

This has led her to study how women become involved with drugs and the meanings they attach to this involvement. In 2022 she published her doctoral dissertation titled In her words: Women's accounts of drug-related risk, pleasure, and stigma.

She is currently planning a new study to understand LGBTQIA+ people's experiences with illicit drugs in Sweden.
