Short Description

This is a compilation dissertation consisting of five papers and a summarising introductory part (kappa). The thesis comprises three major parts:

A systematic literature review and thematic analysis - disseminated in two journal articles
An emprical part - two studies reported in two journal articles
An analytical/theoretical part - elaborated on and discussed in a conference paper and in the kappa

Description

Primary teachers that are going to teach pupils in their first years in school have a fundamentally important role, given the teachers´ potential impact on pupils´ early formative years in school. Therefore, the training and preparation of primary teachers and studying and understanding their learning process and related behaviours, appear as crucial. This also applies to the process of achieving information-seeking skills. Skills needed both for academic success and a future teaching practice informed by research.

In this PhD project, it is hoped that a much-needed contribution to library and information science and information behaviour research will be provided. This through two empirical studies investigating primary teacher students´ emotions in the process of learning and achieving information-seeking skills, guided by the research question:

• What information-seeking emotions are primary teacher students experiencing in the process of achieving information-seeking skills? From a student and an instruction librarian perspective?

In the analysis of the empirical data, the analytical part of the PhD project, the implications for learning and teaching information-seeking skills are interpreted through a framework of appraisal theories of emotions: Scherer´s Semantic space of emotions and Pekrun´s Control-value theory of achievement emotions.
