Project Details

Short Description

Current food systems contribute to climate change and threaten ecological environments, particularly in the Baltic Sea. In this challenging environment, algae represent a sustainable and innovative solution. This project aims to enhance understanding of the algae value chain in new contexts, promoting sustainable and healthy food practices by reducing nutrient loads, restoring marine ecosystems, and providing nutritious food sources.

The project addresses these challenges by consolidating current and complementary research on algae as food resource in Swedish markets. It aims to create demand-driven synergies among stakeholders by mapping challenges and opportunities and will facilitate increased collaboration through establishment of test beds for
development of processes, products, and communication models. This will strengthen the industry's innovative power and commercial potential. Test beds will be implemented through pilot projects, involving various stakeholders in co-developing products, communication, and practical toolkits. Project results will be disseminated through effective outreach and awareness-building activities.

Ultimately, the project aims to enhance understanding of critical stages across the algae value chain in the underutilized Baltic Sea region. This transformative approach will generate new knowledge, methodologies, and
prototypes, contributing to blue growth, nutritious food sources, scientific excellence, and solutions for key societal challenges.
