Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate why some people will and can work until they are 65 year or more, and some people not either can or will. The study was built at answers from 2 000 employees within the health and medical care services. The data material was divided into three groups from the answers. Group 1 who cannot and will not work until 65 years. Group 2 who can and will work until 65 years or even more. Group 3 who can work until 65 years or longer, but don’t want to. In the analysis we could see that there was two factors that primarily was different between the three groups. The factors were motivation and working environmental conditions. In the motivations factors economy, to feel appreciation from the organisation and the possibility to use the professional skill was high ranked as differences between the groups. In the working environmental conditions physical-and psychical stress, organisations changes and reduced working hours was the most significant differences between the groups.
