Abstract
Background: Elder care affect many people. As the older population in the world expand, the requirements of the elder care will increase. Participation is a condition for good health, healthy ageing, and is clearly identified in laws and guidelines. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe elderly peoples experiences’ of participation when receiving care in their home. Method: A qualitative literature review where 14 scientific articles were analyzed though a deductive approach. Result: The elders primarily experienced lack of participation when receiving care in their home. Positive experiences was identified occasionally, for example when the care givers asked questions prior to care routines. Discussion: To improve elders experiences’ of participation when receiving care in their home, it requires that the relationship between care taker and care giver get better partly through enlighten the unequal power relation between the two parts. Conclusion: Through improved participation the chances of good health and healthy ageing will increase.
