Abstract

The focus of this report is to raise the importance and significance of private landownership. Private landowners in connection with Skåneleden have, through a survey, been given a chance to express their opinions regarding increased number of visitors and the right of public access. The private land is an important component for Skåneleden to exist at all, therefore it is important to take the landowners' place attachment in mind in order for them to want to share their land. Has an increased number of visitors and their impact on the land changed the private landowners’ views of the right of public access? Do the private landowners have the possibility to express themselves towards authorities? The survey that was conducted have resulted in mainly positive opinions regarding both the right of public access on private land and the visitors impact on the land. Through the survey results and the sources that have been used, it was discovered that the right of public access is an important and useful right but is difficult to interpret because of ambiguity and many grey zones and in some cases need to be reviewed. Hemfridszonen is one of the exceptions that contributes to misinterpretation of the right of public access. Landowners have pointed out in the survey that contact with authorities and organizations usually works, but several of them also believe that it needs to be improved. It emerged that both the right of public access and private land ownership are good and important aspects for a functioning outdoor life and require respect and communication from all parties. This report and further research are important for a future functioning collaboration and that the opinions of landowners must be allowed to play a role in the public's use of private land.
