“Promoting social learning in school age educare centers” is a qualitative study where semi-structured group discussions with teachers in school age educare centers have been conducted. The purpose of the study is to investigate how teachers in school age educare centers experience that they work to promote social learning in the centers. The research question that forms the basis for the study is: Which didactic choices do teachers in school age educare centers consider that they make to promote social learning? The study is based on didactic theory and the three didactic questions: what, how and why? are used to analyze the empirical data. Thereby, the results are presented by starting from the same basic questions of didactics. The results show that social learning is learning that takes place in groups, and the learning of abilities linked to social competence. Social learning is also a tool that can be used in relationship work in various ways. Through wisely constructed learning environments and skilled teachers who work clearly with educare center pedagogy, it is possible to see success factors in the work with social learning. The teachers work in this way to facilitate the children's learning and in a societal perspective to create good citizens for the present and the future.
