Background: Palliative care at the end of life means supporting well-being and dignity for of the care recipient and alleviating suffering. The nurse has a responsibility to also support close relatives who have a central role in palliative care. The Covid-19 pandemic meant challenges that made it difficult for close relatives to participate in care. Aim: The aim of the study was to shed light on close relatives experience of palliative care at the end of life during the Covid-19 pandemic, in hospitals and nursing homes. Method: A general literature review including eight qualitative and two quantitative articles which was searched through the databases Cinahl and PubMed. Review was carried out using HKR's review template and analyzed using Friberg's four-step model. Results: The results identified three main categories and six subcategories. The main categories describe close relatives experience of separation, communication and information, and a final farewell. Emotions identified in the six subcategories were: emotional suffering, acceptance, loss of control, gratitude, sadness, and comfort. Discussion: In the method discussion, the literature review's strengths and weaknesses are presented based on Shenton's (2004) four credibility concepts reliability, verifiability, dependability, and transferability. The result discussion for a dialogue about the suffer at a distance, to understand the close relatives situation and the sadness of the stolen moment. Conclusion: In future pandemics, this literature review may be helpful in supporting close relatives , promoting a dignified end, and reducing the risk of complicated grief. The literature review also highlights the importance of further researching the nurse's knowledge of digital communication in order to meet the needs of close relatives.
