Abstract

The purpose of the degree project is to investigate how teachers in the after-school center perceive how students in need of special support are made involved in the after-school center. The degree project seeks answers to how teachers in the after-school center reason about participation in the after-school center for the students who are considered to be in need of special support, which strategies the teachers in the after-school center think work to increase participation in the after-school center's activities as well as what obstacles in the activities teachers in leisure centers consider to be applicable to the inclusive work. The research approach is qualitative where we conducted six interviews with trained after-school teachers from different schools. In order to analyze our study, we have started from our two theoretical starting points: a categorical and a relational perspective. Our results indicate that the interviewed teachers believe that there are obstacles to making all students participate in the after-school activities and these obstacles are large student groups. The analysis also shows that the structure of the learning environment has an impact on students' participation in the leisure center.
