The purpose of the study is to provide knowledge about how teachers in the after-school center say that they work with different strategies with quiet children and why they use these particular strategies. The study is based on a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews and where after-school teachers from different schools in different municipalities have participated. The study takes its point of departure in the didactic perspective for analysis of the results from the empirical work. The study shows that the importance of routines, security and presence are the components that are the basis for quiet children to participate in after-school activities and for quiet children to be challenged at a slow pace. Quiet children achieve security through teachers building relationships with them and teachers taking help from the quiet child's friends and parents. The strategies identified in the study show that they do not require much planning or time for them to be successful. However, the study shows that teachers are still limited in their work with quiet children due to too few staff and too large groups of children in the leisure center.
