Abstract

Since the 1990´s, the school in Sweden has undergone a number of reforms that have contributed to the establishment of new schools in the labor market and given students the opportunity to choose between schools. Reserch shows a school segregation where equality in school is threatened through an uneven student composition in schools in terms of social background and a oblique recruitment of teachers. The problem in the swedish school is that there is a lack of teachers and the challange of retaining licensed teachers in the profession, as well as the recruitment of new teachers to schools an teacher education. The above problems aroused interest in what the teachers work situation looks like. The purpose of the study is to shed light on teachers work situation against the background of the fact that many teachers leave the profession and few choose to train as teachers. The study has used a qualitative approach with co-structured interviews of licensed teachers who have been active in the profession for at least ten years. The results of the study show a deteriorating work environment for teachers with increased tasks, reduced influence and less clear what the role of the teacher is.
