Elderly people are more often outside the digital society and the future is designated as digital. In the area of healthcare, digital technology has come to be considered important as Sweden is facing one of the biggest challenges of our time. The challenge are an increased population of elderly people, which also entails an increased need for healthcare, and at the same time a decline in the population of gainfully employed who can take care of them. The solution has been identified as digital, but the problem is that the target group with the greatest need for digital healthcare services is also the least likely to use them. Confidence in digital technology has been pointed out to be an important aspect when it comes to succeeding with including the elderly in the digital society. Authorities and researchers believe that too often the focus has been on information campaigns to achieve trust and too little on interface design. On this basis, this study has examined which design aspects of the interface reinforce the feeling of trust and confidence in a healthcare application for the elderly users. The study was based on the healthcare-service 1177 vårdguiden, which is Sweden's largest contact area between healthcare and patients. Through concept-driven interaction design research with a qualitative approach, four design aspects that lead to increased trust could be confirmed. These were navigation and information hierarchy, recommendation, last used and more information. The study's conclusions can be used as a guide for future designers in the design of healthcare-services where trust is considered important for the elderly users or for the elderly users’ acceptance of the digital-services.
