Abstract

Swedish society has become increasingly segregated, the importance of the preschool's role has become more prominent. The preschool must offer an equal education for all children and work preventively and promote health, but there are shortcomings as the conditions look different. Many pre-schools have access to a special education teacher, but his task is complex as there is no formal eligibility requirement, even though the profession is highlighted in the Education Act (SFS 2010:800) 2 kap. 25 §. The purpose of the study is to explore what perceptions preschool teachers have of the special education teacher's mission and to study what role the special education teacher and the preschool teacher have in relation to prevention and health promotion work. We want to contribute knowledge about the importance of preventive and health-promoting work in preschool by having both preschool teachers and special educators participate in qualitative interviews. The interviews dealt with questions about their experiences, success factors, their responsibilities and cooperation in the prevention and health promotion work. Based on the thematic analysis of the results, we were pleasantly surprised by the awareness and knowledge the respondents have regarding the special education teacher's mission and the importance of preventive and health-promoting work. Clear guidelines, organization and collegial cooperation based on the salutogenic and relational perspective are success factors shared by the respondents. The study showed a clear picture that there are many parameters that interact so that an equivalent education can be incorporated in the preschool by starting from ecological systems theory connected to the salutogenic and relational perspective in the analysis work. The businesses' economic and social conditions vary, which has been shown to have a major impact on, for example, the design of job descriptions, organization of staff and children's groups, and varying investments in different professions that affect the business. Preventive and health-promoting work in the preschool is important for the preschool and the child's well-being.
