Abstract

In this study, the aim is to investigate after-school teachers' experiences of digital games in after-school activities. It has been done based on a phenomenological perspective as theory with semi-structured interviews as method with four different after-school teachers. The results of the interviews have been analyzed using IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) to account for what the informants experience and find the essence of the phenomenon of digital games. In the results, it is clear from the after-school teachers that balance is central in various parts both regarding attitude, competence, use and learning. There are both positive and negative effects with digital games, but where a critical approach may be needed to meet the students' needs and interests. The results and analysis have then been discussed in relation to the previous research of digital games in businesses where large parts of the research confirm the statements that our results highlight. The study has been carried out in order to be able to raise after-school teachers' views on digital games and to be a contribution to the development of digital games in after-school activities.
