Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study is to examine the students' influence and participation in the school-age educare on the children's perspective. The survey was based on the question: When do students in the school-age educare get the opportunity to influence and participate? The hope with this study is to be able to increase knowledge about students' agency in practice. Based on the question and interpretation of the observations that have been carried out during the field observation, the influence and participation of the students is to the extent, adapted to their age and ability. Aspects of participation are essential in this study and will be linked further to the theory surrounding the children's perspective. Based on the observations in the school-age educare with preschool students, it was possible to distinguish activities that were predetermined and more organized by educators, as well as free activities where the students could decide what they wanted to do. As for the older students' idea having their own club, teachers approved this proposal and made the club possible. Thanks to the council of the school-age educare, students became involved and gained influence in influencing the content of activities in the school-age educare.
