This research explores the investment process of venture capital firms during early-stage financing, applying signaling theory within the deal funnel framework. The study aims to identify how signals are prioritized at different stages of the investment process. The research question is: How do Venture Capital firms' prioritization of different signals vary during different stages of the investment process and why? The theoretical model shows that the stage of the investment process significantly influences the prioritization of signals. During the early stages, the focus is on understanding the company's management and business. As a venture capital firm develops a stronger interest in investing, the focus shifts to scrutinizing the specific terms of the potential investment. The study's findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamics of venture capital investments and signaling theory, opening up new research opportunities in this area.
