Lifestyle habits that are established during childhood often follow the individual duringthe whole life. School is an important arena for working with young people. Overweightand obesity are connected to the individual's lifestyle habits, specially food intake andphysical activity and are two risk factors that often lead to lifestyle diseases like cancerand heart disease later in life. The aim of the study is to do a survey of the spread ofoverweight/obesity in Hässleholms municipality primary schools in two different schoolyears, school year 08/09 and 14/15. One aim of the study is to see if anything haschanged with the spread of overweight and obesity from the school year 08/09 to14/15 and study if the spread relates to time. Studies show that the normal BMI valuedoesn't apply on children under the age 18. Because of that the ISO-BMI values havebeen developed for use on children. The method is a total survey of every medicalrecord on the children in the selected school years. The result shows that the spreadof overweight/obesity is higher in the school year 14/15 then 08/09 with someexceptions. In the school year 08/09 there was 20 % overweight and obesity and in theschool year 14/15 it increased to 22 %. The conclusion is that overweight and obesityare still great problems for Hässleholms municipality but with some trends that showsa positive result. The most interesting finding was the girls trend curve which clearlyshows that the girls has higher BMI from the start of school up to the 4th grade andthen drop in BMI until the start of the 7th/8th grade. Another finding is that the studycan´t say anything about the relation between living in the city or outside of the city. The study opened a lot of questions for further studies. For example if the trend curvefor girls exists in other school years.
