The work on creating a more sustainable society is a well discussed topic. Previous research shows that sustainability, measured in ESG-rating, has significant impact on banks profitability, both in Europe and Asia. On the other hand, there was a knowledge gap in former research, where the two continents were compared. This study aims to analyze if there is any difference between Europe and Asia, regarding the impact ESG-rating has on banks financial profitability. To answer the research question, regression was used. The regression aims to test the study’s five hypotheses. The procedure is characterized by a quantitative method using a deductive approach. The analyze was conducted on 48 banks, whereas 24 was European and 24 Asian, to analyze whether the European banks were more affected by ESG-rating compared to Asian. The result shows that there was no significantly larger affect from ESG-rating on European banks. The analyze could not confirm that the environmental- and governance aspect affected European banks more than Asian, because the regression were not significant. However, the result shows that the social aspect had a significant lower effect on European banks compared to Asian banks. The study will contribute to the literature by enlighten that there most likely does not exist any difference between European and Asian banks. The study contributes to the society by enlighten that the European banks have a higher average ESG-rating compared to Asian banks, which indicates that the continents can learn from one another.
