Abstract
The purpose of our study is to investigate how social science teachers inelementary school grades 4-6 work to improve students’ ability to identify fake
news and misinformation on digital platforms. Through a qualitative method, five
interviews were conducted to gain an understanding of their teaching practices.
The study clarifies how teachers choose to integrate news and social media into
their teaching and how they use critical literacy to strengthen students’ ability to
analyze and interpret information. The study shows that teachers often use the
news program “Lilla Aktuellt” to discuss news, but they also turn to social media.
The study highlights the importance of relevant concepts such as credibility,
misinformation, and fake news to support students. Teachers also emphasize the
importance of open dialogues and engaging students in reflections about
information sources.
