This study investigates what factors teachers in leisure center consider are most significant for creating a meaningful environment at the leisure center for children in socioeconomically exposed areas. It also focuses on identifying the challenges that leisure teachers experience, which may affect their work in creating a meaningful environment. The method chosen for this study is semi-structured interviews with six certified after-school teachers from various parts of the country. The study is based on the ecological systems theory to gain a deeper understanding of how children's closest environments influence their meaningful time at the leisure center. The chosen analysis method for this study is thematic analysis, and the results show that teachers work with influence and variations of activities to create meaning for the children. The results also highlight that club activities, small trips and complement with families are important considerations in creating a meaningful environment for children in socioeconomically exposed areas. The challenges highlighted by the results are a lack of staff and budget, and these factors impact the teachers' ability to create a meaningful environment to prevent children from being drawn into other risky situations.
