Research shows an increase in “sedentary” among children and youth and that increased physical activity is a positive factor for a better physical and psychological well-being. Teachers in leisure centers have a responsibility to offer movement and joy of the moment in the leisure center. According to the curriculum for leisure centers the students must develop an understanding about how physical activity can affect their health and well-being (Skolverket, 2022). The purpose with this study is to examine what physical activity means for competent teachers in leisure centers and therefore have a better understanding of how different teachers in leisure centers create opportunities for the students to increase physical activity. The study is based on two questions, the first one is: How do teachers in leisure centers describe the term physical activity? The other question is: How do teachers in leisure centers describe that they are giving students the opportunity to increase their physical activity? In the study, our theoretical starting point has above all been phenomenographic theory but also in affordance theory. The research has used qualitative research through semi-structured interviews with seven informants. Through the qualitative analysis-method three categories could be produced, which was physical activity, teachers in leisure centers descriptions around the enabling of increased physical activity and also physical environment. The result in the study showed that the teachers in leisure centers had a similar perception about the term physical activity as increased pulse and tendency to sweat. Teachers in leisure centers described the enabling as problematic in condition to the physical environment. The conclusion has been drawn that teachers in leisure centers need more presumptions for enabling increased physical activity and they want to see a clarification of the conception of physical activity in governing documents.
