Adaptations is a support effort that takes place within the framework of regular teaching. It is a support effort which requires no formal decisions to implement. The implementation of extra adaptations is something that the class teacher together with colleagues take initiative for. The purpose of the study is to shed light on primary school teachers' conditions with extra adaptations in practice, how these are planned, implemented and followed up. Furthermore the study is exploring special education teachers role in that practice (Skolverket, 2022). A qualitative study is carried out with the help of eight semi-structured interviews, of which six primary school teachers and two special education teachers. The theoretic starting point is based on Imsen's (1999) frame factor theory and the five frames; the educational system, the administrative framework, resource-related framework, organizational-related framework and framework related to the students and their cultural background. The respondents in the study are primary school teachers and special education teachers at three F-3 schools. Results show that extra adaptations are a time-consuming task. The primary school teachers are willing to spend the time to plan, implement and evaluate the adaptations to make learning accessible and beneficial for all students. The special education primary school teachers can contribute support in all parts of the work with extra adaptations, everything from helping with the documentation to brainstorming ideas. Resources, lack of time and the premises are three obstacles in the work with extra adaptations that emerge in the result. Prerequisites that emerge are the possibility of seeking support from the special education primary school teacher, taking part in the collegial support and cooperation with the guardians.
