Student thesis: Bachelor

Abstract

The study examines five teachers in grades 7–9 and explores their descriptions and experiences of interacting with students with neurodevelopmental disorders in elementary school. It also explains the concept of neurodevelopmental disorders, reviews previous research in the same field, discusses different special educational perspectives, and explores relational pedagogy. The results show that the teachers prioritize the individual needs of students, irrespective of their diagnosis, and describe the changes made in their teaching methods. Maintaining a positive relationship with students is also discussed. Teachers describe various challenges, such as a lack of time and the need for more resources and support to provide adapted teaching and foster a beneficial social environment for all students. In summary, the study reveals that the teachers are dedicated to addressing the individual needs of students, regardless of whether they have a neurodevelopmental disorder or not.
