Background: COVID-19 was classified as a pandemic in the beginning of 2020 after the virus quickly spread across the world. Some of those infected required hospital treatment for serious symptoms. How the patient experiences the time in inpatient care and the course of the illness is important for the healthcare staff to understand in order to offer good care. Aim: The purpose was to shed light on patients' experience of being cared for in an inpatient ward with covid-19 during the pandemic. Method: A literature review was conducted based on eleven qualitative articles that were searched for in the databases Cinahl Complete and PsycInfo. The articles were reviewed with Kristianstad University's qualitative review template. The analysis was made using Friberg's five-step model. Results: The patients experiences were presented in two main categories: The meeting with the care staff through the eyes of the patients and The time in care that provoked emotions. In addition, six subcategories are presented: Gratitude for the present healthcare staff, Being treated like a contagion rather than an individual, The protective equipment created uncomfortable encounters, An emotional journey during the time in solitude, Fear of the unknown and death, and Community became the best medicine. Discussion: The method part were discussed using: credibility, confirmability, dependability and transferability. Three findings were discussed in the result discussion: The importance of good relationships, support and presence, The cold treatment of the staff as a threat to patient well-being and Loneliness that caused emotions.
