The impact of climate change is already visible today, and its consequences are expected to become more pronounced for our environment and society in the future, despite adaptation efforts. Research on the economic and material consequences is widespread. However, a less explored area is how people's relationship with the landscape and the surrounding environment is already being affected or will evolve over time due to climate change. To investigate this, a survey was conducted where participants with connections to Åre municipality were asked about their concerns regarding climate change, their relationship with the landscape, and how climate change will affect it. The survey also included questions exploring whether climate adaptation measures could influence or develop landscape identity. Åre municipality was chosen based on two parameters: its vulnerability to climate change and its attractive environments for outdoor activities. The survey results revealed concerns about climate change and its impact on the landscape, as well as uncertainty about how the relationship with the landscape will change. It also showed support for most adaptation measures. Thus, landscape identity is negatively affected by climate change, but both disruptions in the landscape and adaptation measures can enable the creation of new identities. Previous research, as well as this survey, indicate that a better understanding of landscape identity can contribute to landscape development.
