Abstract
Societal changes can lead to consequences in the school today. Flexibility within schools and teachers' professional development are challenged as society changes. The special educator's supervisory assignment can be seen as a link in teachers' competence development to practice their professional profession in the school today. This problemarea forms the basis for the purpose of the study, where the focus is based on teachers' perceptions in the field of supervision in relation to competence development.The aim of the study is to contribute knowledge about teachers' perceptions of special education supervision in relation to their own competence development. In order to concretize the aim, the following research questions are formulated; How do teachers perceive supervision in relation to the development of their own competence? In what way can supervision contribute to competence development?
National and international research highlights different perspectives on supervision in relation to competence development, collaboration, support and reflection and collegial communities.
The choice of theoretical starting point for the study is from the systems theoretical perspective. In the relation to the aim of the study, central concepts such as entirety, circularity and meetings between different systems are used. The study's method choices are qualitative semi-structured interviews where six teachers' perceptions of supervision seen in relation to developing their competence were used to collect the study's empirical data. The teachers are working in compulsory school and teach from preschool class to year 9.
To meet, feel participation and security in one's role as a teacher, get tools and keys, feedback, compare and discuss contribute to a process of change where the supervision can act as a link for circularity. These are some parts that were highlighted in the result and discussed further.
