The aim of this study was to examine teachers' experience of translanguaging and its possibilities and challenges. Translanguaging is a way of using all the student´s linguistic resources in education, and it can be seen both as an approach of how you see languages and as the practical strategies in the classroom to make use of the mother tongue in learning. In this qualitative study focus group interviews of teachers with a couple of years' experience of translanguaging have been made. Seven teachers in total took part in the study, that has been analyzed from theories of multilingualism and translanguaging, and it shows that the teachers can see many possibilities and challenges with translanguaging. The biggest possibility that the teachers in the study accentuate is to make the students´ identity stronger. Other possibilities that the teachers in the study talk about is group discussions with students that has the same mother tongue, a better collaboration between the school and the homes and between the teachers, the mother tongue teachers and the study guidance's. The approach that multilingualism is something positive and that the learning could take place in two languages parallelly is also something that the teachers talk about. Those possibilities have been analyzed with García's (2009) idea of social justice and the result could be understood as that the examined school has done much to create an approach where all languages are valued as languages for learning. With García's (2009) social practice we can see that most of the challenges are about the practical strategies in the classroom. The challenges highlighted as problematic are about the difficulties of translanguaging with children who are the only ones speaking their mother tongue in the group, the access to study guidance and mother tongue education and digital resources and also the risk of social exclusion or an overuse of some mother tongue.
