The school places great linguistic demands on the students through the knowledge requirements and abilities they will develop. Language is a very important tool for learning and the main means of communicating what you have learned. Everyday language and school language differ from each other in that the school language places much higher demands on the language accessibility than the everyday language we use without much thought. It is important that the teaching meet pupils different linguistic qualifications in order to create a language accessible teaching. In this study, we explore how a special education teacher and a teacher can work together to identify and overcome difficulties in science. The focus of this collaboration is the language aspects of learning as well as jointly planning lessons based on identified barriers in order to develop a linguistic support and thus create a language inclusive teaching. It appears in our study that a special education teacher and a teacher can work together to identify and remove language barriers in science teaching through lesson study. It appeared that linguistically accessible learning environment, language-oriented activities and visual support led to that the teachers experienced increased participation among all pupils. It appeared that the teacher primarily links the role of the special education teacher to the collaboration or teaching of students in need of support. Despite this there is also a desire from the participating teacher for further cooperation and thoughts on developing collaboration through co-teaching.
