Abstract

Background: The nurse's treatment can be about everything from eye contact and touch to how communication works verbally. Patients often end up at a disadvantage compared to the nurse, because they are in an unknown place and don´t have as much knowledge about healthcare. How the nurse's treatment is then experienced is important so that patients can feel safe and dare to open. In emergency rooms, the medical perspective can be prioritized, which can mean that the treatment ends up in the shadows. This study is therefore done to provide an in-depth knowledge of what is lacking and what is experienced well in treatment from patients' perspectives. Aim: The aim was to describe patients 'experiences of nurses' treatment in the emergency department. Method: A general literature study based on qualitative scientific articles. Articles were found by systematic search in two databases. The articles were reviewed using HKR's review template and analyzed based on Friberg's analysis process in three steps. Result: Both positive and negative emotions arise from the nurse's response. The results are presented in five main categories: to feel confirmed, to feel caring, to feel confident in the nurses, to feel devalued and to feel exposed. Discussion: In the results discussion, three findings are highlighted from the results of the study and how a model for person-centered care can be applied in relation to the findings. Patients who are treated well feel strengthened in the role of patients but also as people. A poor treatment or lack of treatment from the nurses makes the patients feel worse and, in the worst case, detest.
