: Kvalitativ litteraturstudie om våldsutsatta kvinnors upplevelse av bemötandet från vårdpersonal inom hälso- och sjukvården

Abstract

Background: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a global societal problem where women are often subjected to more repeated and serious violence, with most perpetrators being men. Women exposed to IPV often seek care in the healthcare system for unclear physical and psychological problems. Nurses and other healthcare professionals play a crucial role in identifying battered women. When women exposed to IPV seek care in the healthcare system, nurses are usually the first contact that battered women meet, nurses are therefore usually the first to identify victims of IPV. Aim: This study aims to describe battered women’s experience of the reception from healthcare professionals in a healthcare setting. Method: A literature study with a qualitative approach. Two databases were applied during the search for articles, Kristianstad University’s review template was applied during article review. Friberg’s (2022) four step analysis method was used in the analysis. Results: Two main categories and four subcategories were created. The categories clarify battered women’s experience of healthcare professional’s attitudes in the reception. The women felt guilt and shame and that they were not or were seen, heard or believed. The women experienced various obstacles to talk about their exposure to violence. On that occasion, questions about IPV and lack of information was described. Discussion: The method discussion is based on Shenton’s (2004) credibility concept. Three main findings were discussed: Respect and understanding, guilt and shame, and not being asked about IPV. The findings are linked to nursing theory, the global goals and ethical theory.
