Background: The nurse's primary responsibility is nursing and it covers the person throughout the whole lifecycle, from birth to the end of life. Therefore it is a part of the nurse's profession to provide palliative care. Aim: The aim was to describe nurses´experiences of providing palliative care in a general care ward by compiling literature. Method: A qualitative study based on 10 scientific articles from the databases Cinahl, PubMed and PsycINFO. The articles are reviewed by using HKR's review template and the analysis is made by using Friberg's analysis model. Results: Nurses who provided palliative care in general wards experienced that it was an emotionally challenging job that gave a lot in return but that required life experience, knowledge and time. Discussion: The method is discussed based on Shenton's (2004) concept of credibility for qualitative studies. The results are discussed on the basis of McCormack and McCance theory of person-centered care (2017), also society and proximity ethics is discussed.
