The aim of the study is to investigate the perceptions of staff in school-age educare centers regarding the concept of students’ needs, to shed light on what needs they consider it their task to accommodate and how they adapt the teaching to meet these needs. To collect qualitative data, seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight informants. This data was analyzed using a phenomenographic seven-step model to discover the variation in perceptions regarding student’s needs. From the analysis five categories were identified: "care", "social needs", "academic needs", "recreation", and "safety". The result of the study suggests that staff members at leisure center’s view student’s needs as diverse, and that there is a varied perspective on which needs should be prioritized. To accommodate all student’s needs, close collaboration between staff at the leisure-time centers and student’s home environments is required.
