Abstract
The purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge about the organizationalobstacles and opportunities experienced by practicing special educators based on
the job description outlined in the professional regulations. The method employed
was a quantitative survey conducted through digital questionnaire distributed on
social media platforms. Twenty-four practicing special educators responded to the
survey and their answers were analyzed using organizational theory as a
framework. The results indicated that special educators encounter both obstacles
and opportunities in their professional practice. Organizational obstacles mentioned
by the respondents include inadequate leadership, unclear mandates, lack of
resources, and short-sightedness. Additionally, the results showed that special
educators perceive opportunities such as developmental work, collaboration,
mentoring, as well as personal responsibility and autonomy. Given the varied
conditions and tasks reported by special educators, further investigation into the
complexity of their professional role is warranted. To delve deeper into the
obstacles and opportunities faced by special educators, the perspective of school principals could have provided additional insights into the complexity of the special
educator's role from a leadership standpoint.
