Abstract

The purpose of the study was to highlight consumer taste preferences regarding combinations of Swedish wine and Swedish cheeses. Through a combination of surveys and consumer tests, participants choices of red and white wines paired with various types of cheese were analyzed, including whether gender influences taste preferences. The results showed a gender difference in wine selection, with men and women show preferences for different types of wine. Men preferred white wines over red wines when paired with cheese (p=0.045), while women preferred red wines over white wines with cheese (p=0.026). However, there was no significant difference in the consumer test regarding how men and women preferred the combination of wine and cheese. This indicated that preferences for wine and cheese might be more individual and not necessarily linked to gender. The study has the potential to be useful for Swedish wine and cheese producers by providing insights that can be used for product development and marketing strategies.
