Football (soccer) and economics are two topics that together stands for most of the world populations’ interest. They are topics that often during the 2nd millennium gets mentioned in the same sentence. A popular quote is “Money cannot buy everything”, and in the world of football the quote ends with ‘league titles’ instead of ‘everything’. This paper focuses on studying economic strength within Swedish elite football clubs and how it affects their league table position. Initially the paper discusses Swedish football as a whole and its position in European football, related studies to the topic and the papers take on the topic. This is followed by theory concerning Swedish football clubs’ economy and an explanation on what economic numbers the paper focuses on. The study includes six ratios gathered from six different teams’ annual reports taken from a period of nine years. These ratios are put in relation with the clubs’ league table outcomes in an analysis of descriptive statistics, simple linear regression and multiple regression. Through the descriptive statistics the study shows that economic strength has a meaningful contribution to the clubs’ league table position. The results of the simple linear regression pawed way for an analysis that show how each ratio affect the clubs’ league table outcome. The multiple regression gave the study a model of which ratios together can explain a clubs’ final league table position. For future research, the study suggests looking at larger set of variables related to the relationship between economic strength and performance.
