Stensjö village is a cultural reserve in eastern Småland where the fields and buildings are well documented. The older history of the surrounding lands has also been studied previously. However, the forest development within the cultural reserve during the period of modern forestry is less well documented. The overall purpose of the study is to fill this knowledge gap based on three research questions concerning the spatial development of clear-cut forests, changes in tree species, and logging volumes during the period of 1959-2013. The research questions have been primarily answered through the use of aerial photographs (orthophotos) and maps from six different time periods, supplemented by archival research of forestry management plans, annual reports, and logging records. The results show that the clear-cut forests are at their highest level of growth during the period of 1959-1973. During this time, several forest roads are also constructed, ranging from 6.4 to 21.5 kilometers in length. The logging volumes remain steady throughout almost the entire 1960s before increasing from 1969 to 1974. Large quantities of pine trees are planted during the period of 1959-1973, which is a result of the large clear-cut forests that were created during the same period.
