The background to this study is that children today have a reduced interest in reading, which can be linked to the results in reading comprehension that have fallen in recent years' PISA surveys. The reading competence is highlighted as a key competence for successful schooling, which provides individual prerequisites for an active life in society. The purpose of the study is to investigate which factors and strategies teachers state are important for stimulating a desire to read fiction books in primary school students. The reading circle model and the concepts of internal and external conditions from literature researcher Chambers formed the theoretical starting point. The method used to achieve the aim is semi-structured interviews with three primary school teachers. Results were analysed based on the thematic coding method. The results showed that the teachers had a high degree of consensus regarding reading development factors and strategies, as well as a correlation to previous research in the subject. The most frequent factors that were highlighted as important for stimulating students' desire to read fiction were literacy, accessibility, collaboration, reading role model and support. The most frequent strategies that were highlighted as important for stimulating students' desire to read fiction were conversations about the importance of reading, book tips, reading aloud with book conversations and level adjustment.
