: - Perspektiv på informationspreferenser längs Tjustleden

Abstract

On hiking trails, hikers meet different landscapes that are experienced through movement and recreation. Information serves as guidance and can, through its content and placement, influence hikers' interest in natural, cultural and outdoor values. Previous research shows that information material needs to be designed with different user groups in mind in order to balance accessibility, safety and experiences. Texts, images and stories can also help to make visible values and contexts in the landscape that otherwise risk remaining unnoticed by visitors. Knowledge is limited about which type of information hikers prefer and its placement. The aim is to contribute knowledge regarding hikers' preferences regarding how trail-based information is designed, placed and which themes interest hikers most. The study is based on a landscape science perspective where information is understood as part of the landscape as a whole and as a link between its physical expression and the meanings created in encounters with place. A survey study was conducted based on Tjustleden in Västervik Municipality. The results show that signs are the type of information that most hikers prefer, regardless of whether they are placed at the start of a stage, the finish line or along the trail. Brochures mainly serve as a complement to in-depth information. Digital solutions such as QR codes engage to a lesser extent, which can be related to a desire for digital disconnection while hiking. In terms of content, themes within natural and cultural values appear to be more interesting than the Swedish right of public access (allemansrätten) of way and outdoor activities. The results contribute knowledge that can be used in the development of information systems along the Tjustleden Trail and similar hiking trails.
