Sammanfattning

Fresh water is a precious resource on our planet, and agriculture takes up to 70% of the accessible fresh water. In this paper, we present our design of a smart IoT-based soil moisture system for optimizing the water usage in agriculture and farming. We have implemented a prototype system with Arduino microcontrollers and a Raspberry Pi. The developed system showed a 60% reduced use of water compared to the timer-based prototype. Even though these are promising results, further testing should be done to provide a wider comparison.
