Abstract

The purpose of this work is to make visible the freedom of choice that characterizes the Swedish school. Freedom of choice is a broad concept that is based on different levels in the school system. In this work, we make visible the different levels of freedom of choice and how they have affected the school and, by extension, society. An idea analysis is applied to the empirical material that focuses on the implicit meaning of the text. The analysis deals with examining the concept of freedom of the Swedish school (Denscombe, M. 2018). The results of this work indicate that freedom of choice had laid its hand on postmodern society and thus in Swedish schools. Postmodern phenomena such as neoliberalism, market ideals and identity creation are consequences that have replaced the mooring value of modern society. The results part of the work wants to show that the changes that have taken place in school and society have led to the school being in crisis.
